Vacation log 2

Next step was into Estevan. We stayed with Wes' Aunt Elaine and Uncle Gerrie and got to spend time with his Uncle Ken and Aunt Joan too. They enjoyed the kids a great deal. Well - who wouldn't!

We also got to spend some time with the Pippus family - great fun. Megan quickly found the key to Gavin's heart - TRAINS. They had a blast.

We also got to see some of Wes' old school buddies too.

As we left Estevan we hit the farm again so Gavin could spend a bit more time mucking around with Uncle Bill. Did I mention he loves Uncle Bill!

Vacation log

OK - so here is what I am going to do - because we were in so many places and saw so many people I am going to do blog installments. I just have so many pictures! And if you find it boring remember you have my complete approval to skip or ignore any entries.

First up - Medicine Hat - we stayed with the McLeod's for the first night of our journey. The highlight in Medicine Hat was the water cooler - for a two year old who loves water play nothing is as cool as a water cooler.

The next day we drove all the way to the Muirhead's farm outside of Estevan. A seven hour trip without stops. The kids did great. Thank goodness for portable DVD players. Of course Bronwyn is still rear facing so it didn't do her much good. But she sure enjoys her books lately so that helped.

Well, the farm was among the highlights of our trip. Uncle Bill made a big impression on Gavin's little horse loving soul. He toured him around and they fed the horses, told the dog not to jump and did other farm type stuff. I should know - cause as you all know I am a farmer! Really! Well they sure entertained us in grand style.

I don't have pictures from the farm as Aunt Mary's camera was handier so I used it - she has promised to email me some.

An aside here - I just ran spell check and did you know that the first thing that comes up on the list as a correction for Muirhead is airhead - hmmm.

Stay tuned...

We are home

AHHH - we had a nice time but it is always good to get home. I will follow with pictures and the details of our adventures. I'm just too tired to do anything right now!

Its been a week already

I just realized it has been just over a week since I last posted an entry. Wow - sorry to those of you who check in daily to keep up on the ever exciting details of our little world. Both of you must be anxious to hear how we are (HA I know I'm funny).

We have been very busy. I grew as a person - really truly I did.

It is a bit of an involved story but I was feeling very sorry for myself. I won't go into the gory details but I have struggled with settling into life as a stay at home mom. I see women all around me who have done it extremely gracefully but alas I am not one of them. I was in a bit of a funk on Saturday and so naturally I did what most women do and I blamed it on my husband (I'm kidding - well mostly).

We drove out to Mom and Dad's to help them get dinner organized for the visitors they were having over night. They were having a married couple and three children from the African Children's Choir. The choir preformed at our church Sunday morning. These kids are from Uganda (the land that Idi Amin terrorized). These children are beautiful and amazing and come from extreme poverty and uncertainty. My problems suddenly seemed extremely unimportant.

Then I read an email from my Aunt. My family lives in a country being run by a man who is outdoing Amin. Daily life is a struggle and is getting harder by the day.

And I complain about not feeling actualized as a professional! OF ALL THE NERVE. I feed my kids - daily - and not just feed them - I feed them well. Wow! If we lived where these little children live I would only have one child to feed.

Don't worry I realize that life is hard no matter where you are and that we all have struggles. I just think it does us all good to realize what is positive in our lives and to reflect on the seriousness of the struggles in other parts of the world.

This has been a bit deep for me so I'll have to take a vacation now. Growing as a person is very taxing. We are headed to Saskatchewan to visit with family. We haven't had any non-hospital breaks as a family in well over a year - so this should be fun. So if you don't hear from me for a while it isn't because I am maturing (although I just might) but more likely I'm having some fun with my family. Just one more privilege for which I am thankful.

Our house is too hot...

Or so I say - but Wes on the other hand has figured out that it isn't the house - its me. He figures that I have a medical condition that causes me too exude to much body heat and so it doesn't take much for me to overheat. Wow - glad he cleared that up for me.

Three nights in a row

Bronwyn has slept through the night three nights in a row. I think it may have something to do with the massive fan we have on in their room! Yeah for sleep.

We just keep going

Wow! This summer has been so busy. We have just been on the go. Today is a sit at home and watch movies and veg. day.

Friday we were at Carissa & Robbie's fourth birthday party. If you want to see chaos watch twins open gifts - ha! The boys all got pirate loot bags and the girls got Tinkerbell stuff. Here's an idea - get a whole bunch of 4 year old boys together and give them all swords! Makes me wonder why pirate themed parties are so popular. Actually, the party was really nice.

Saturday we cleaned the house a bit and then headed out to Kanaskis. It was our church's family camp weekend. We weren't up for camping but we headed out to have supper and enjoy a bit of outdoor time. We didn't get as much visiting time as I had hoped as we got lost. We drove all over K-country looking for the campground. The kids were good considering the situation. We even saw some big-horned sheep. It would have been a lovely, family drive in the mountains had mommy not been so cranky about it.

I thought about it after and realized that many people in the world would love to take an afternoon drive in the mountains and take in the pure majesty. If only my attitude had been better eh?

We finally got there and we had a great time. Gavin loves playing with other kids.

Yesterday, was lunch at Mom and Dad's along with the Watts family.

So you see - we need a break.

Dancing Boy

Photo Sharing - Video Sharing - Share Photos - Free Video Hosting

My son loves to dance. This is a bit of a long video but I couldn't figure out which part to edit out.

You will also notice that my daughter has already started to adopt her mother's study habits. If you just rub the book on your head you absorb all the knowledge within. What a clever girl!

Before you all comment on the underwear - he wears it only under duress these days. Gavin is very pro-diaper and very anti-underwear at the moment.

You learn a few lessons on the way

So there are moments as a parent where you think - oh, I should have seen that coming. But, you realized that you didn't see it until it happened, so lesson learned and you move on. That happened to us tonight.

We went out as a family to the grocery store, this is usually a pleasant outing but Gavin was just a bit wound up tonight and he and his Dad had to exit the store before we were finished. Bronwyn and Mom brought the groceries out to the car to find Gavin sitting in the passenger seat beside Daddy. He was just playing about waiting for us. I put Bronwyn in her chair and opened the hatch and started to put groceries in the back. Wes got out to help me.

It is at this point that a wise parent would have decided to either remove the child in the front seat or to at least role the window down. Both adults are out of the vehicle and there is a two year old loose - what could go wrong. Well, I'll tell you - he locked the doors.

Wes banged on the window and pointed to the button and yelled - unlock the door Gavin. I tried yelling from the open hatch but he had also turned the music up. Other shoppers walking by were staring at us! I felt like saying - Yes we are sloppy parents!

Wes found it totally funny - while I was a triffle less amused.

Finally Gavin realized what we were asking and he unlocked the door. Mommy then removed him and strapped him in safely to his car seat.

So you see - lesson learned!

Our weekend

One of the gals from our prenatal classes lives near a lake and often invites the rest of us to join them. We met Friday morning and had some fun splashing about and digging in the sand. The kids had fun too. Ha ha - just kidding. Bronwyn is not much of a beach girl at this point. She was not overly impressed with the sand - although she did seem to think it tasted pretty nice.

Yesterday the kids and I went for a walk with my friend Katherine in Fish Creek Park - it was too hot. Then we went to help celebrate Cadence's first birthday.

Sleeping continues to be an issue in our house. Mommy is just getting more and more tired. I seem to be on strike as the dishes aren't done, neither is the laundry or the floors or the groceries. Wow - what have I been doing with my time! Certainly not house cleaning.

But miracles of miracles Bronwyn slept through the night last night - that was the longest she has slept since before her second surgery! Of course it still wasn't a breeze as I woke up at one point with Gavin 2 inches from my face with a pillow lifted over my head! AHHHH! He was coming to sleep with us - not kill his Mommy - I was quite relieved.

Today we went to Auntie Jon's house (that just kills me - seriously) after church and Gavin played like a maniac with his cousins. Then we drove over to Mom and Dad's house where Tom and Pam and kids were visiting and he again played with his big cousins like a maniac. So we brought home one very tired little boy this evening.

Happenings

It is amazing how something little can completely change your life. Well - this may be overstating it but really it can feel that way.

We got a new stroller. It is a double stroller and fits both kids. It is super! A good friend of mine, Andrea, had tried about 4 different double strollers and finally ended up getting this brand. So I just trusted her judgement and got the same kind. It is super and we are more mobile now. Wes and I took the kids for a long walk on Saturday. In fact today is the first day since we got it last week that I haven't used it. I didn't use it today only because I didn't want the crazy wind sweeping my daughter away.

Speaking of daughters - lately (and I have to admit I have no clue where this comes from but...) when Gavin is doing something naughty and gets caught he runs away mumbling in a gruff voice - Fodder daudders. Translation - father daughters! What the hey? Who knows what the heck that is about.
OK - so one more Gavin story for today. Today Bronwyn was eating and I was getting something in the kitchen, Gavin who was finished was wandering about (menacing I call it). Bronwyn suddenly started to cry so I came flying in the room. Gavin ran from the scene in a guilty way. I asked what he did he said in a very sweet voice- I hit de Bronwyn, but its OK I did it nizely.

Little missy has crawled over to me as I type. Her little personality is just blossoming.

This weekend and today were cooler than last week, which was a relief. Wes has dreams of getting a place in Mexico where we will go and spend big amounts of time. I hate to admit I am not very supportive of this dream - for two reasons. One I am cheap and two I don't like the heat.

Gavin's best friend is back

We were out to see Pops and Grandma yesterday. We didn't let the dust settle under their feet either. They got home late Tuesday night and we were on their doorstep early Wednesday morning! How nice of us eh?

We has a wonderful day as always. The highlight for me was as we drove away Gavin sighed and said with a contented expression - I love Pop.

Well there you have it!

Happy Canada Day

We didn't wave a single flag today. Sorry but it is true. In fact I barely knew it was Canada day. I guess for me the days just blend together into on big attempt to get more sleep!

We did, however, have a wonderful day. We went to church, went for lunch (the kids behaved - whoohoo), watered Mom and Dad's plants and went to a gardening centre. When we got home I cut more of the hedge down and weeded while Wes and Gavin made a bird house out of sticks. Bronwyn was napping during this time - a long nap - this is why she is in a mood to party now. Maybe she wants to make the most of her first Canada Day.

I even got to watch a show on TV that interested me - although it was a total bore to everyone else in the family. It was about the great lodges of the Rockies. I just have to admit I love all the grand lovely old hotels that are scattered about in the mountains. If I had more money I'd stay at one every other weekend! But alas we are just wealthy enough to squander all our money on home improvements!

Well I think I should try to get our youngest offspring to go to sleep.

Funny Bone

The best thing about being a parent of a two year old is the unexpected conversations that you have. There are things that my son says that just tickle me!

Last night we went to get Bronwyn's medicine and we had to wait so we walked down further to the Dairy Queen to get a cone. As we got close we noticed a couple sitting outside with a large greyhound. Gavin exclaimed - Mommy, look a camel!

This morning as I was surveying the unholy mess the kids have made in the living room. I said to Gavin it was a real mess. He said - Gavin make mess (quite proudly I might add). Then I asked if he would help me clean it up since he made the mess. - Nope!

Bronwyn is also making us laugh these days - it is harder to describe as she isn't talking - but she can be such a goofy little monkey.

For me a couple goofy kids is the best medicine any day!

Bleak House

Well, we knew it would happen but you are never really quite prepared. Grandma and Pop have abandoned us. They have gone to Saskatchewan for a week. Gavin is having a rather bleak weak as a result. I have been planning as many visiting opportunities as I can so he wont be too desperate.

We drove out to Mom and Dad's today to water their flowers. The whole way there I was telling him that Grandma and Pops won't be home - we are going to water the flowers - they are in Saskatchewan. He kept agreeing. When we got there he wandered around for a while then he said - Where Pops, Where Grandma??

Last Sunday we were at Mom and Dad's with the Watts family. The kids had a blast! As the pictures prove.

Updates

I wanted to give a quick update on our little heart buddy Quinn. He was relisted for a heart but that is now on hold. The biggest challenges have been getting him to adjust to food and getting him to gain some weight along with daily physio. I know Kim and Ben have their hands full and yet their reports are filled with wonderful stories about both Hannah and Quinn and the cute things they do. Quinn is, like Bronwyn, a wonderfully happy baby. I think Kim and I have both been blessed in this regard - I heard several times at the hospital that the heart babies tend to be cranky and miserable. Well - not our kiddos!

The other bit of news is about Steve and Shannon's nephew Braden Mole. He is an amazing teen who has been a patient at the Stollery off and on for years. He decided several years ago that he wanted to help even if it was in a small way. Well that small way seems to have caught fire and he does an annual fundraiser that this year pulled in over $150,000. Braden is also the spokesperson for the Stollery hospital for 2007. He is a great example of what can go right with our kids.

Prenatal Classes

We were at a barbecue on Saturday night with some of the couples that we met when we took prenatal classes before having Gavin. It is really nice to get together with these families as our kids are all so close in age. Most of them were born within days of each other. Not all the couples that have stayed in touch were able to come, but it was just wonderful to see everyone.

There are several additional children that have been added to the mix too.

We had a lovely time and the rain stopped long enough for a nice outdoor event. Speaking of rain today was the first day in a long time that it didn't rain - whoooo hooo.

Things I find cute

Just for fun - here are a couple of little things the kids are doing that we find fun.

Gavin says:

I want to bisit her - which means he wants to climb in Bronwyn's crib while she is in there.
Baby noses - he has a little baby Moses puzzle.
Daddy's in the classroom - the classroom is also known as the office.
He calls his first children's bible - the bible so (like the song - Jesus loves me)

Bronwyn crawls with one foot pushing - like Kellen Muirhead used to do. She also has started recognizing when we laugh at something she does and she seems to enjoy that. OH NO - two little performers. She is getting fussy about what she will and wont eat - well like mother like daughter!

The flu

Yet another member of the family has fallen ill. Our drier has decided to pack it in. Wes and Dad were trying to figure out how to fix it last night. I had a load of little tiny pink girl things in the wash. As a result we turned our living room into a close line. They still aren't quite dry. Gavin thinks it is GREAT!

Well why shouldn't the drier get sick - it probably did as much work this weekend as I did.

On the family front the kids and Wes are on the mend and I finally got a good nights sleep.

Tuesday, June 12, 2007

Shhhhh

The kids are both asleep! They were both asleep earlier and so I did yet another load of laundry and a couple other chores and tried to get a bit of a nap. I only dozed for about 1o minutes when the little lady started to yowl. She is now sleeping again though.

We are having weird weather today. By times it is dark with very scary looking clouds and next it is sunny. Right now it is windy!

The biggest event in my son's young life lately has been Pop's new truck. He is so enamoured with it. He talks about it all the time. The other day when he saw a baby on a commercial he said to me, "I'd like a baby." I replied, "You want us to get a new baby for you and Bronwyn to play with?" He responded, "Yeah," then thought for a while, "Truck, a new truck, like Pop's." So thanks very much Dad.
By the way did you know that the driver's seat in Dad's new Nissan can recline completely flat. My two year old figured that one out. Why would it be able to do that?

Monday, June 11, 2007

We made it

It is Monday evening and as of this moment all of the Davis family are feeling better. Gavin is not eating well yet but has his energy back. Bronwyn is back to her charming little self. Wes is also improved after a lot of sleep today. The one exception is Mommy - I am dog tired! I never want to do another load of laundry again!

Food goes away

I had, for the first time in a long time, planned to do something for myself today. I had signed up to take a course. It wasn't all day, but a chunk of the day. I was quite excited by the prospect of doing something that I am interested in - just me no one else.

But alas, Bronwyn started throwing up last night and had not stopped by this morning - so I had to call and cancel. Of course it was the only choice I could make but I was actually disappointed. That may sound selfish but I sort of felt that fate was conspiring against me. I had made plans to be away, organized Bronwyn's food, put Mom and Dad on stand by to help Wes if needed - everything was looked after. I was going to be wild and crazy and go out on my own. My one and only chance was smashed by a wee sick little girly. Trust me the emotions of worry for her and wanting to help her were far stronger than the pang of self pity!

We hadn't had a very good night and Bronwyn was a bit better through the day but still throwing up. Finally this evening she seemed to be finally better. My biggest relief is that she kept her medicine down. We were just breathing a bit sigh of relief when Gavin cried out from his room and he had thrown up in his bed.

I was holding him after he threw up the second time and was saying how nasty it is to be sick. He explained to me that "the food goes away." Well it indeed does that - doesn't it?

So we are for now tired and likely to be worse tomorrow...

Hospital visit

Bronwyn and I were at the hospital this morning. She is taking part in a study - a study that follows the development and growth of babies who have had intense and invasive therapies. The upside for us is that they are checking her hearing, motor skills and general health for a couple years.

Today she saw the hearing specialist, a physiotherapist and a pediatrician. All reports were great. She is right on target and is so far not showing any delays in development. This was really reassuring news. I suspected that she was doing good but you never know if this is just a mommy's perspective or if she really is doing the things she should.

It was a long appointment but I think it was worthwhile. Bronwyn has been in 3 or 4 studies up to this point. We are just so thankful for all the babies who have gone before Bronwyn and whose parents agreed to try risky and experimental surgeries. Without those children there wouldn't be a treatment for HLHS and Bronwyn wouldn't be here to participate in more studies. We are thrilled to participate in anything that will give them more information for the children that follow Bronwyn.

Sleepy girl

The other night I had to go out for a meeting and I was taking Bronwyn with me. She hadn't had a nap yet and she was really tired while eating her dinner. So I asked Wes to get her coat on so I could put her in the car seat before she fell asleep.

We didn't make it!

Deciding what to say

I have over the last few days wanted to write about several things, but I can't make up my mind which one to focus on. I wanted to report on my lovely visit to AdFarm (wow I love those people). I wanted to share about all of Gavin's new little sayings and fun things (like "alicious, I love it). I wanted to talk about my friend Kim (Quinn's mom) and her amazing strength. I wanted to mention how both Andrea and my Mom came and saved my kids the morning I had a migraine. I wanted to say what a wonderful time Mom and I had at the ladies retreat on Saturday or write about our visit with Sophie and Eliza (or as Gavin calls her - other Sophie) which was also fun. So many things!!!

But I think today I will write about what has been most on my mind this last week. Please bare with me this is self indulgent. But if I can't be self indulgent on my own blog - well - you get it.

I have been reflecting a lot about this past year this week. At this time last year I was about as stressed as I had ever been. We by this time knew about Bronwyn's heart problem - but we didn't yet know it was a girl. I was going every other week for echo cardiograms and I was beginning to interact with more medical personnel than I had ever imagined existed. We had already met our cardiologist, we knew we had to go to Edmonton, I was waiting for amnio results, we were waiting for a meeting in Edmonton to meet the team there. On top of all that I was still working and was looking for childcare for Gavin.

Last year at the end of May I had more questions than answers.

I look back on it in amazement really. It is really hard to distill all the thoughts and feelings that come with all of these memories. I remember one afternoon just absolutely breaking down at Mom and Dad's. The worry just seemed too much. Every appointment and milestone on the road to Bronwyn's birth held anxieties and apprehensions. Yet it wasn't hard after a while to feel like I could embrace the plan and move forward with a positive feeling.

What do I gain by looking back at last May? Well, I have learned that fear and apprehension of what is coming down is usually worse than what really happens. We are very resilient and somehow "reality" is much easier to manage than what we think it will be. (Don't know if this makes sense).

The other thing I see when I look back at where I was last year at this time is that God is with us, helping us, guiding us. He has provided for me everything I needed to deal with our situation. Last year I was beside myself trying to figure out what to do for childcare for Gavin. I only needed help for about a month and a half. God brought Shauna into our lives - Gavin ADORED her and she gave me the confidence to know he was looked after and I could do what I had to do. I don't think she will ever understand how much that meant to me. It was more than just finding someone good to take care of my precious boy. I was at the time handling all I could handle. I could not add worry over Gavin's care to my list of concerns. God knew I needed to be able to go to work and be assured that he had provided for me.

Then came all the wonders of Bronwyn's care - amazing surgeons, support at the hospital (particularly Shirley), and family!

This is just one example of how I saw God working in my life. I know I have written about this topic before. I am sure it just sounds old. I guess I feel like last May was one of those pivotal times in my life when the decisions I made shaped not only who I am as a person but it also shaped our experience as a family. It would have been very easy to feel defeated and sorry for myself (trust me on that one). We as a family made some very conscious decisions to rely on God and to trust that no matter what the outcome we would handle it as it came.

So you see - self indulgent.

Gavin hasn't had the best week

We started the week badly when I shut his fingers in the front screen door. It was awful, I cried as much or more than he did. I called Wes right away and he was so supportive and understanding. He is such a great husband.

Then last night I was out with Bronwyn for a meeting. When I got back home the boys met us at the door. Gavin was holding an icepack in his hand. I immediately said - What happened!

Wes had been working in the basement and he used his drill. He set it down when he was done and Gavin grabbed the drill bit which was very hot. So he burned his fingers.

I wasn't nearly as supportive as Wes had been earlier in the week. My first instinct was to feel awful for little Gavin, pretty tough luck two finger traumas in one week. My second response was to feel badly for Wes because I knew how badly I felt so he must feel bad too. But the third and I hate to admit the longest lasting feeling was one of relief.

I said to Wes with a smile - Oh, that is definitely worse than what I did!

Now before you get too critical of this response, I mean just between the two of us (and any other of millions who could possible wander on to this sight) - it makes sense. I felt so bad after hurting him and of course I would have rather he not been hurt in either instance but the fact is we both made unfortunate mistakes and in my mind Wes' seemed worse. So it somehow made me feel better.

OK - I admit that is bad (but secretly it makes sense right?). Of course Wes disagreed so an argument ensued over which injury was technically worse.

Long and short is that our poor son is fine, neither injury was severe or even very bad - just bad enough to make us feel awful. He is still his buoyant little self, he still terrorizes his sister. In fact I took the kids down to AdFarm today and he terrorized them for a while! He is lucky that my work is filled with such loving people.

Long weekend

We had a lovely long weekend. Wes was home all weekend so we did lots of family stuff. We didn't do as much yard work as we had planned (it rained). We ate more than we planned. We visited with family and friends (more than we planned). We cleaned the house and the kids ( a couple of times - again more than we planned).

All in all a wonderful weekend.

(The wonderful part doesn't extend to today - today was awful - but maybe I'll go into that another time - maybe not we'll see how I feel in a few days. Oh, except the party we had today - that was fun).

So Tired

Why is it that by Friday evening everyone is so exhausted. Maybe we should have 2 work days and then a break and three work days and then one day off? Well it would likely be a scheduling nightmare.

We were over to see Cadence (Bronwyn's best girlfriend) the other day and had a very nice time. The girls played very nicely together. Gavin too!

Two year olds will drive you crazy

I am finding Gavin a bit of a handful these days. On one hand I am in total awe of what he is learning and all the clever and cute things he does. On the other hand I am finding it hard to assert my authority and get him to listen. I don't know how many times a day lately I say "Gavin, Gavin, Gavin (it takes three tries to get his attention) you must start listening to me!"

Don't get me wrong - I love the fact that he is independent and strong willed - these are great characteristics. He just needs to learn where to apply them. Today, while at Grandma and Pop's house he hit his sister and boy was I angry. I went to grab him but he ran around kitchen island and stood behind his Grandma. I crossed my arms and said "Gavin come here," really sternly. He looked at me and then at Grandma. He then pointed at me and said, "Scary." I had to turn around so he wouldn't see me laugh. Two year olds!
The other day I was in the car with the kids (I was driving - no panic there) and we were chatting. I often tell Gavin he is my best boy. He announces to other kids in the park or pretty much anyone that he is "best boy." He was in the back seat discussing how he is the best boy. We started a conversation that went like this:

Me - Is Daddy the best boy?
Gavin - No.
Me - Daddy is the best daddy.
Gavin - Daddy best daddy.
Me - Is Bronwyn the best boy?
Gavin - No. Bronwa is the best gwerl (I love how he says girl).
Me - Yeah - Bronwyn is the best girl. Is Gavin the best boy?
Gavin - Yes! Gavin best boy.
Me - Is Mommy the best boy?
Gavin - No.
Me - Mommy is the best...
Gavin - Orange.

Whatever!

So I guess it is mother's day

I woke up this morning with a bed full of children and of course my husband. Most days it would have been vaguely annoying that my offspring wont sleep in their own beds but today it was sort of sweet. After all what greater joy for a Mom than to wake up with her little one right with her.

It is funny I don't really feel like celebrating "me" today, although someone suggested I should be nominated mother of the year (oh, wait, that was me talking to myself when I was cranky with my family - erase that!).

My thoughts this mother's day are focused on the great legacy my mother and both of my grandmothers left for me.

I won't go into the details of why they mean so much to me. But I will say this - I seriously doubt I would have been able to get through most of our ordeal over this last year without their example.

They have been examples of great strength, courage, faith and love. All things I needed to draw on last fall. There were times when I know my own strength wasn't enough - I need my mother to support and uphold me. While my mother was able to physically do this I believe that my Grandmothers by their example and their strength of spirit propped up my will and buoyed my spirit.

I know this is not particularly original. Most people I know can share similar stories. This year more than any other Mother's day means a lot to me for the very reason I have shared.

Today has been a day of reflection for me and I hope I can show my Mom how much I value her everyday not just today. As my brother said earlier today "Every day is mother's day at their house." (Ahem).

Not much news

We have had a good week - trucking along. It has been very busy and the weather has been super.

Gavin has had a super time this week. He loves "friends" now and he talks about friends a lot. Of course, everyone we see is a friend whether we know them or not. The elderly lady walking through the park the other day was greeted with "Hi friend."

I am sure they have both done a million cute things this week but I am too tired to remember.

We were at the park today with a "friend" Eric. Eric also brought his mom and sister too. It was a great outting.

A new week

Last week was just yucky for me. I was feeling sick, for the first part of the week and the second part of the week it rained and rained. By Saturday I was tired frustrated and well a really impatient mommy and wife. I was not my best self by the end of the week.

But you know today is a new day and the start of a new week. It is beautiful out today and we went to a church picnic after church and it was great fun. Gavin had a blast. You know, there is really not much more enjoyable than watching a bunch of kids of all different ages running around in a park having a great time (whether you are a parent or not).

Gavin was chumming with Sophie - it was so cute. Bronwyn well she just sort of keeps to herself - she isn't as social - mainly because she can't crawl yet. She is working on that though - really really hard! She wants to crawl and get around. I am a bit afraid of what my life will look like once she is mobile. We are however thrilled as she doesn't seem to have any significant delays even after everything she has been through.

Here are some pictures from the past week. Actually as I look back over the pictures it wasn't all that bad - maybe it was just my attitude that was bad (ha - like I'd admit that).
